Industry Participation at Film Independent

Film Independent welcomes the participation of film industry professionals in our Talent Development and Education programs. Industry can participate in a variety of ways – as mentors, guest speakers, and instructors, as well as by providing fiscal support to our programs. Our hope is that interactions between film professionals and FIND Fellows will be mutually rewarding – a chance for industry to meet the next generation of talented writers, directors, and producers, and a chance for our filmmakers to learn from experienced industry pros as they develop their craft and move their feature films into production.

Among the programs that connect the film industry with FIND Talent:

Fast Track

Fast Track is a selective film financing market designed to help narrative and documentary filmmakers move their current projects forward. During three days of intensive meetings during the Los Angeles Film Festival, Fast Track connects filmmakers with financiers, production companies, and other industry professionals. This highly selective program is open to established as well as up-and-coming filmmakers with exceptional projects still seeking funding. For more information, please visit http://www.filmindependent.org/donate/sponsorships/.

Kodak Speed Dating

Kodak Speed Dating is a networking event for filmmakers with films playing the Los Angeles Film Festival to meet a range of industry professionals. Our event has been designed to facilitate an atmosphere of accessibility, camaraderie, and open exchange between filmmakers and industry professionals. If you are interested in participating as an industry representative, please contact Josh Welsh, JWelsh@FIlmIndependent.org.

Industry Connect

Industry Connect is a networking program designed to promote cultural diversity in the film industry by providing industry meeting for filmmakers from backgrounds underrepresented in the industry. The program follows a speed-dating format where selected Fellows meet with participating industry executives to discuss their projects, receive invaluable feedback, and have the opportunity to expand their network. The executives are comprised of representatives from various sectors of the film industry – agents, managers, producers, and other film professionals who work with emerging talent. To participate as an industry representative or to get more information, please contact Jane Hwang, JHwang@FilmIndependent.org

Throughout the year, Film Independent involves many industry professionals in its programs as mentors to filmmakers who are going through the Talent Development programs. Mentors can help FIND Fellows gain exposure to the professional film world as well as to make valuable industry contacts. Through their mentorship, Fellows should emerge with a broader perspective on the art, craft, and business of filmmaking and a clearer understanding of how to move their particular projects forward. Our hope is for mentor and Fellow to develop a collegial and mutually rewarding relationship. If you are interested in being a mentor or learning more about mentoring FIND Fellows, please contact Francisco Velasquez, fvelasquez@filmindependent.org.

Guest Speakers

Throughout the year, Film Independent produces numerous programs which draw upon a wide network of industry professionals as guest speakers – from our Filmmaker Labs to our Filmmaker Forum to our Directors Close-up. For more information on speaking opportunities at Film Independent, please contact Director of Talent Development Josh Welsh at JWelsh@FilmIndependent.org or Director of Education Maria Bozzi, at MBozzi@FilmIndependent.org.
