Katherine Fairfax Wright

BIO

Katherine Fairfax Wright graduated from Columbia University with a double major in Anthropology and Film. She is the producer of Gabi On the Roof In July, which premiered at Cinequest 2010, and won Best Narrative Feature and Best Actress at the Brooklyn Film Festival. Weaned on a school of vérité filmmakers, she has worked closely with Bent-Jorgen Perlmutt, Nelson Walker, and Fellipe Barbosa. She associate-produced Perlmutt and Walker's award-winning documentary Lumo, which aired on P.O.V. and won the 2007 Student Academy Award. Wright also associate-produced Perlmutt's Les Vulnerables, the closing short at New York Film Festival 2007. Wright has worked in a producing role on several other films and she is an award-winning photographer. Alongside Malika Zouhali-Worrall, Wright is currently directing the documentary Call Me Kuchu, which tells the story of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender activists in Uganda. The film, which Wright is also shooting and editing, has been supported by a number of grants including the Chicken & Egg Pictures "I Believe in You" Grant, the Catapult Film Fund, and the Garrett Scott Documentary Development Grant at the Full Frame Documentary Film Festival.

 

CURRENT PROJECT: CALL ME KUCHU (DOCUMENTARY FEATURE)

LOGLINE:

Call Me Kuchu tells the story of four LGBT activists in Uganda, including the life and tragic death of the country's first openly gay man, David Kato, who will stop at nothing to liberate his fellow kuchus and prevent an Anti-Homosexuality Bill from becoming law.
