Julia Meltzer's video work has received prizes at the European Media Arts Festival, Transmediale, and the Rio de Janeiro Short Film Festival. Recent art work has been exhibited at the Sharjah Biennial and the Whitney Biennial. She is a recipient of grants from the Guggenheim Foundation, the Rockefeller Media Arts Fellowship Fund, and the Louis Comfort Tiffany Foundation. She was a Fulbright Fellow in Damascus, Syria in 2005-6.

Houda al-Habash, a conservative Muslim preacher, balances the responsibilities of marriage and motherhood with her role as an Islamic leader in Damascus, Syria. Houda gives women and girls first hand knowledge of the Qur'an, in the school she founded when she was only 17. Using Islam as a catalyst for change, she challenges rigid cultural tradition, encouraging girls to pursue higher education and jobs. In a world rarely seen, Houda's inspiring school reveals why women are choosing Islam in a rapidly changing world.
